"Nanum Rowdy Thaan" received mixed to negative reviews from critics with a critic pointing out it as a copy of "Velaiilla Pattadhari". According to film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the film "is a pale copy of Velaiilla Pattadhari, its story is pretty much the same, its characters are pretty much the same, and even the comic performances -- between Asin and Karunakaran -- are similar. But there’s one crucial difference: Velaiilla Pattadhari is a Tamil film, Nanum Rowdy Thaan isn’t. So the comparisons end there." The Times of India wrote "If you want to watch comedy with life and comedy, go ahead and pick it up for a good time at the movie hall. But if you want to watch a decent rom-com with some decent laughs and emotions, kindly pick any other film because this one is nothing more than an empty barrel that needs filling." Nowrunning. com gave it 1.5 stars out of 5 calling the film "a disaster" and that it is an "imitation without an iota of originality". The New Indian Express wrote "there are few laughs in the first half, which keeps you engaged", but criticized the second half stating "the film’s second half is all about loud comedy and predictable situations." The Times of India gave it 2 stars out of 5 saying that the film is an outright copy of Nagesh Thiraiyarangam. The movie opened with mixed reviews, however critics praised Asin's performance. cfa1e77820
