BIOFLOC Technology is a natural and environmentally friendly way to remove solids from wastewater. The technology utilises the same principle upon which an Aquaponics system operates, making it a closed loop system. A Biofloc tank works by using a combination of three types of media for biomass production: 1) aerobic bacteria 2) open surface algae 3) agar containing nitrifying bacteria. This mixture is inoculated into the bottom layer of media in the Biofloc tank where it will be fed by nutrients from wastewater that flows over it up through all three layers of media in an upward direction, while simultaneously being cleaned by centrifugal forces at the tank's walls.
